They find pristine reefs in the depths of the Galapagos waters
A spectacular discovery was made in the waters of the Galapagos Islands, Ecuadorian territory, according to reports from the Galapagos Deep 2023 expedition.

They find pristine reefs in the depths of the Galapagos waters.
These are extensive, ancient, and pristine coral reefs that were on the crest of a never-before-mapped submerged volcano, stretching for several kilometers at a depth of between 400 and 600 meters.
The scientists maintain that “the discovered reefs are novel in having between 50% and 60% living coral in many areas. Meanwhile, the norm for reefs at these depths of the sea is to find between 10% and 20% live coral cover.”
“They are pristine, meaning they remain unchanged and in their original form, and teem with life: pink octopuses, batfish, squat lobsters, and a wide variety of deep-sea fish, sharks, and rays. Dr. Michelle Taylor described, from the University of Essex, UK.
This discovery is also important, according to the experts, because it is possible to study the evolution of habitats that do not have human intervention with respect to global climate change.
