Glas Viejo judicial process faces new obstacles

On Tuesday, the tenth judge of Criminal Guarantees Edgar Macias Guerra issued a new ruling that does not support the rape charge against Jorge Heriberto Glas Viejo as untimely.

Pedro Granja, prosecutor against Glas Viejo recalled that the girl’s mother presented the case against the alleged rapist of his daughter, who was 13 years at the time, on November 21 and the charge was recognized by the judge in his own statement of November 27, which was presented within the course of the preliminary investigation.

In a part of the providence Judge Macias states: “… follows private prosecution against the accused Jorge Heriberto Glas Viejo therefore such charge has been filed within the course of the preliminary investigation that began with the indictment and home the preliminary investigation, and technically concluded on 23 November 2012, at 12:00, in which providence enforceable by a prosecutor resolution which declared concluded the instruction…”

Granja stated, “There is a desperation in prosecutor office to close the instruction that its evidence has scandalized all Ecuador, audio, folio procedural file that expose state corruption network involving this case. Then the judge takes this decision, which is really the top of the degradation, the dismantling of legal sanity,” he said.
