Julian Assange, an embassy guest for five years

Posted On 19 Jun 2017

Ecuadornews:

Between Julian Assange and his freedom, there is still a barrier: an arrest warrant of the Metropolitan Police of London. In London, it’s summer again, and as tourists walk through the shops and cafes of upscale neighborhood of Kensington, the WikiLeaks founder has been an asylee at the embassy of Ecuador for five years now.
He entered the embassy on June 19, 2012. Swedish prosecutors accused him of raping two women, which he rejected. The cases were prescribed a few weeks ago.
So far the Ecuadorian Government has ensured Assange’s stay at the embassy. However, in the early days of the government of Lenin Moreno, there were tensions. (I)
