Former presidential hopeful Guillermo Lasso has shown his support to journalist Martín Pallares, who is due to appear at a hearing today after former President Rafael Correa filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of offending him in an article published on the 4Pelagatos website.
Correa has requested one month’s imprisonment against Pallares, and the payment of a compensation. Pallares is one of the most prestigious journalists in the country.
“Once again independent journalism and freedom of expression are threatened by the correism,” Lasso tweeted Sunday morning. “We want a democratic country, where we can think differently without being threatened, without favoring the whims of anyone,” he added on a second tweet. (I)
