EcuadorNews:
Former presidential hopeful Guillermo Lasso told Chilean daily El Mercurio that “Ecuador’s problems are so serious that these cannot be solved with a change of nuances, but a substantive change is required.”
“I believe that the problem is not a person, but the model and this is a model of government that controls all the judicial, electoral, and control institutions such as the National Audit Office, the Prosecution, and even the Attorney General.
It is a root problem of a model that does not respect liberal democracy. A model that is based on a State of propaganda, which uses public seized media to attack the people who think differently, and to make propaganda that makes citizens and people abroad believe on the existence of a social efficiency that does not exist,” he said.
Lasso will land in Chile on Wednesday, the same day Lenin Moreno will be inaugurated as Ecuador’s new President. Invited by the platform for reflection and debate “La otra mirada,” he will give a lecture along with his friend, former Chilean President Sebastian Piñera, on Friday, whose main theme will be “Latin America, the battle for freedom.”
