Last consultation on the water law
Posted On 02 May 2014
It is the last phase of the pre-legislative consult on the draft Law on Water Resources and Use and Exploitation of Water. The Assembly will convene on Friday, may 9, 17 organizations of Ecuadorian Afro, indigenous, peasant and peasants; but also to risk and fishermen associations to collect observations of the law. The appointment will be in the José Mejía Lequerica hall, from 09:00 to 17:00.
Some indigenous leaders, especially those linked with the Conaie and Pachakutik, already have moved forward their questions to the text. They want that all sectors are represented in the Pluri-National Water Council.
The other four key points for the indigenous leadership are decentralization and deprivatization of water, the regime for the protection of sacred waters, the creation of a Water Fund and the respect for the community-based management systems.
The last step corresponds to the Sovereignty Commission, which will correct the text that has to go to assembly. The intention, at least so far, is to reopen the second discussion of the project before the vote.
