This weekend Leandro Diaz passed away at 85 years old; he was one of the greatest composers and performers of vallenato in Colombia, due to a cardiopulmonary stroke in a clinic of Cesar, Valledupar.
The death was confirmed by his son, Ivo Diaz, 49, via telephone.
“My father leaves an entire musical legacy, not only to his family but to the entire Colombian culture,” said Ivo.
This vallenato legend, who was born blind, became famous thanks to hits like “Matilde Lina”, “Dios no me deja”, “A mi no me consuela nadie”, among others. Throughout his career, Diaz wrote more than 350 songs about love and his country.
“He (God) denied me the sight so I could not see, and in return He gave me the beautiful eyes of the soul”, wrote Leandro Diaz.
