Emelec won in Cuenca and stands as favorite

The millionire team managed to keep its three-point distance as leader of the Ecuadorian soccer tournament, with a score of 41, by achieving yesterday a valuable win 0-1 over Deportivo Cuenca as visitor in the Alejandro Serrano Aguilar Stadium.

With a goal of Argentine Cristian Nasuti, the blue team regained the lead with 3 points over Liga de Quito, who on last Saturday won 1-0 against El Nacional and ended with 38 points. Both teams have two pending matches in this first season. The white team must win six points and hope that Emelec loses at least one match and tie the other.

Yesterday the date ended with Barcelona’s victory 3-1 against Liga de Loja, but the yellows were left without option of being first. In other matches, Independiente won 2-0 to Deportivo Quito, Universidad Catolica won 2-0 to Quevedo, Macara defeated 1-0 to Manta.

Emelec is first with 41 points, Liga de Quito second with 38; Independiente third with 36, Deportivo Quito fourth with 35; Universidad Catolica fifth with 33 points, and Barcelona sixth, with 32.

From bottom half of the score boards, Manta and Nacional appear (22), Cuenca (21), Quevedo (20) and, with relegation danger, Macara (15) and Liga de Loja (14).
