Liberalism is remembered today in Ecuador
This morning, the Foundation Ciudad Alfaro paid a deserved tribute to General Eloy Alfaro at the foot of his mausoleum in the cemetery of Guayaquil, as the beginning of the celebration of the 118 years of the Liberal Revolution of June 5, 1895. It was attended by local authorities from the No.2 Operational Maritime Command and school students from the Eloy Alfaro institute.
In Ciudad Alfaro, Montecristi, were also held celebrations. At 10:00, the military leadership led by Maria Fernanda Espinosa, Minister of National Defence, placed a wreath at the mausoleum of Alfaro. Later, in the capital parades were held, led by the Eloy Alfaro Military School of Quito.
The activities to remember this epic civic date will continue throughout the day. At 16:00 there will be a march from the the San Agustin square (downtown) to the mausoleum of the also known as Old Fighter.
June 5 is the date on which Alfaro arrived in the country, in 1895, to consolidate the liberal revolutionary process against conservatives and initiate administrative political changes in the country to upgrade some structures.
