Argentine striker Lionel Messi was the star of the show after being awarded with the Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball) for the fourth consecutive year, something unprecedented in the history of soccer.
With this award, the Argentine star, who scored 91 goals during the last year with the FC Barcelona and the Argentine national team, beats football legends as Dutch Johan Cruyff and Marco Van Basten and French Michel Platini, who was awarded in three occasions and in the case of the current UEFA president also consecutively.
It is the sixth time that “Leo” integrates the list of nominees since the first was in 2007 when he finished third behind Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, who he escorted the following year.
