Luis Garzón assumes command of the Armed Forces
President Rafael Correa yesterday signed the Executive Order 301, in which he designated the Major General, Luis Anibal Garzón Narváez, as head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (Comaco) for the next two years.
Garzon replaces the Air Force General, Leonardo Barreiro, who was discharged from the Armed Forces after fulfilling his military service time. Vice Admiral Luis Jaramillo remains as General Commander of the Navy.
Major General has held 17 military positions, including Chief of Staff of the Army and head of Operational State of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces.
According to Article 19 of the Organic Law on National Defence, the President chooses this authority from a shortlist that includes the names of the three greater seniority generals in the institution.
