Maduro asks the Pope Francisco the canonization of Brother Gregorio
On wednesday the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro asked to the Pope Francisco the canonization for José Gregorio Hernández, called ” the doctor of the poor people of Venezuela”.
Maduro, who named the Pope leader of the fight against corruption, spoke after the former presidential candidate from the opposition, HenriqueCapriles, announced his next private audience with the Latin Pope at the Vatican.
Hugo Chavez’s successor, a physician who lived from 1854-1919 and has been accepted by the Church as a candidate for canonization is convinced that the Catholic Church will rise Hernandez to the altars. Since 1949, the Venezuelan Church authorities have sought the beatification of this character considered as a saint in Venezuela.
“I have a hunch that sooner than later Jose Gregorio Hernandez, the saint of the poor, the saint of the people of Venezuela, will be canonized by the Vatican,” said Maduro.
