Massive protests against ‘troika’ in Cyprus
Today was the first major demonstration against the ‘troika’ (European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund) since the beginning of the banking crisis in Cyprus. The demonstration was carried out by students who marched through the streets of Nicosia demanding not to put a price to their future.
During the demonstration it can be seen a banner that read in English: “Your mistakes, our future.” Hundreds were students, especially from high school, they began gathering around 09h00, after a call through social networks. The demonstrations chanted phrases like “Leave from Cyprus troika.”
Students protested first outside the parliament and then at the Presidential Palace. Initially the protest was because they ensure that the troika is taking away their money, so that the greatest fear of many Cypriot families, is the end of the bank economy as known till today in Cyprus, and the seizing of the deposits of more than 100,000 Euros that would cause the impoverishment of the country.
