Posted On 06 Aug 2012

The first step to enter Mercosur was made by Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.
Mercosur will begin negotiations, in September, for Ecuador’s entry in the regional bloc, which also includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.
A meeting is planned before September 15, in which discussions on preliminary matters aimed at specifying the access of Ecuador to the block, will begin.
The first step to enter Mercosur was made by Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, who made the request in December last year, during a Bloc Summit held in Montevideo.
Today, Ecuador has the title of associate member of the bloc, along with Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Peru. (MZ)
