IACHR will Investigate Closure of Morena Radio Station
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) accepted the complaint from Morena Radio Station to the Ecuadorian State because of the abuses that have occurred in this media.
On July 26, Assistant Secretary of the IACHR, Elizabeth Ati-Nershed, informed Morena that in 15 days, Almorán S.A. (company that manages the radio), will have to submit the required information on the abuses allegedly committed by the Ecuadorian government to the radio station.
The owner of the radio, Luis Almeida, described this decision as an important step to counter the excessive abuses and the defenseless state in which is Ecuador at the moment.
Almeida seeks to annul the closure of Morena FM, for the State to compensate him with $ 10 million in damages and to stop the “persecution” against the media. (MZ)
