Miami website reveals negotiations for port award in Posorja

Posted On 08 May 2016

One of the biggest foreign investment projects in the recent history of Ecuador, which will inject more than $ 1.200 million in the coming years in the construction of a deepwater port in Posorja, which is planned to be awarded for 50 years to the Dubai Ports World (DP World) company, a giant transnational conglomerate owned by the Dubai government, is being negotiated behind closed doors, according to an article by journalist Casto Ocando published Thursday by the Vertex News website.

Ocando is a prestigious journalist who has been part of the investigation team of the Miami Herald and Univision channel, and an Emmy winner.
According to Ocando, unlike other concessions such as Puerto Bolivar and the Manta Port, awarded to Turkish and Chilean firms, after international public tenders, contract negotiation with the Emirati company (contained in a concession proposal and a Memorandum of understanding presented by Dubai to Quito), it has so far been kept secret.
The Nobis Group, which is the Ecuadorian partner of DP World, whose owner is Isabel Noboa, is taking part in the negotiations.
The formal proposal of DP World, consisting of 30 pages, was filed last January 29, 2016 by its attorney Juan Manuel Marchan to Jorge Vera, manager of the Port Authority of Guayaquil (APG), and this include the requirements of Dubai to sign the agreement (I).
