Military patrol the southern border by horse
At the border area with Peru, in Loja, Ecuador military make patrols riding horses, in order to intercept smugglers who use trails (too narrow for motorized vehicles) to move their illegal products, said the Joint Command of the Armed Forces.
“Such patrols facilitate the recognition of areas, which are inaccessible to vehicles and personnel on foot, which will allow the detailed planning for future operations, thus determining the type of means to be used according to the terrain, “said the Joint Command.

The so-called “hypomobile patrols, ” considered as appropriate by the Command for such operations, are being developed in Saucillo, Ceiba Grande, Balsa Real, Cochas de Almendros y Garza Real, El Chilco, Pavas, Bejucal, Cabeza de Toro, places in which it is presumed there are routes used for illegal trade of fuels such as gasoline, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas.
