Municipality replies to President Rafael Correa
Guayaquil´s Municipality rejected the President´s declaration where he stated that the Chapter made urban regenerations, instead of human regenerations, in the streets “Décima y 10 de Agosto” in the south-center zone of Guayaquil that was intervened because of the high incidence of drug dealing.
On a signed statement by Vicente Taiano, municipal secretary, the Chapter says: “The integral urban regeneration the Municipality did in the “Malecón del Salado” sector did not only contributed to raise the residents life conditions and generate employment and self- esteem, but it helped to eliminate a huge part of the drug distribution that used to affect the whole area, and nowadays it resides in very small part, which the Government had to control but it looks like they just discovered it”.
This past Tuesday, during one visit, both the President and the Governor of Guayas, Julio César Quiñónez, made some negative reviews about the Municipality´s management model.
“Here I see a tremendous infrastructure belonging to the local Government, a gorgeous walk above the estuary; they call it the urban regeneration; they never worried about the human regeneration and didn´t even mind in decontaminating the estuary”, said Rafael Correa, who was accompanied by other authorities of the central Government.
