Narciso Mina and His 30 Goals in the National Championship
Arrinton Narciso Mina Villalba had a year he will never forget: He achieved a historical record with Barcelona Sporting Club, reaching a total of 30 goals that made him the top scorer of the 2012 Ecuadorian Championship.
Mina made several dreams come true in this tournament, and it was quite a feat when he beat his own record. In the last match against Deportivo Olmedo, the striker broke his ‘curse’ of failed penalty kicks, when teammate Jose Ayoví, was fouled and Narciso was chosen to kick the penalty encouraged by a choir of fans present at the Monumental stadium. Narciso (AKA “The Beautiful” Mina) celebrated his goal in grand style with all his teammates.
Narciso fulfilled his promise made in early 2012, and scored two goals to Barcelona’s former goalkeeper Geovanny Camacho, consummating his cherished dream of scoring 30 goals in the competition.
In addition, Narciso “The Beautiful” Mina, also defeated the record of Brazilian Paulo Cesar, who had reached 28 goals in the 1983 National Championship, who, until now, was the leading scorer that the yellow team have had in an National tournament.
Barcelona’s coach, Gustavo Costas decided to switch Narciso for Juan Carlos Ferreyra in the second half, for people to applaud him. He removed his yellow t-shirt with the number 17 in its chest and gave it to his coach.
Mina, who probably played his last game for Barcelona, was very kind with the fans, thanking them for their support and dedicating his goals as a gesture of gratitude for all the cheering and encouragement.
It is probably that in early 2013, Mina will play in the America de Mexico soccer team alongside fellow Ecuadorian Christian “Chucho” Benitez.
