Nebot: “I do not believe the referendum will solve the problems of the justice system”
Posted On 07 May 2011
Guayaquil Mayor, Jaime Nebot Saadi, went this afternoon to vote and gave the press “two messages nothing else.”
“There is a very clear dependence of the National Electoral Council (CNE) on the executive function, ” he said. He was referring to the CNE’s decision to make, with its own staff, a quick count of votes to know the referendum results in advance. “The vote count has been centralized in Quito … That is extremely rare,” he said.
The mayor said he had voted no, except in the seven question which asked whether he agreed with the ban on gambling business. “I do not think that the referendum will solve the problems that currently has the justice system,” he said.
