New Ecuadorian Judicial Council
With the positive vote of five members and two against, the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control designated today the new Judicial Council, which shall consist of Gustavo Jalkh, former private secretary of President Rafael Correa; Nestor Arbitto, former Minister of justice of this government; Paulo Rodriguez and Tania Arias, current members of the Transitional Council, and Ana Peralta, who will take office on a date to be determined, in the National Assembly.
The Participation Council president, Fernando Cedeño, defended the appointment of these people, all close members of the government, because legally they were presented by the executive and legislative functions, the National Court of Justice, the Attorney General and the Public Defender. In addition, he said, that all the designated officials passed all tests.
According to Gustavo Jalkh, who also served as interior minister, and who will be the next chairman of the Council made today and will remain in office for the next six years.
