Guayaquil has a new monument and tourist attraction for its citizens. The second sculpture of Juan Pueblo, the most representative character from Guayaquil, was put on the Malecon Del Salado.
Juan Pueblo, cartoon created 96 years ago by Jaime Salinas, was redesigned by artist Luis Peñaherrera in 1993. The new sculpture is made of bronze, weighs 90 kilos, is valued at $ 15,000 and its production time was a month and a half.
The city mayor Jaime Nebot said that “this is the precedent of a series of traditional and folkloric characters of Guayaquil from yesterday that are going to be placed trough the following 45 days in other places of the city”
The event was attended by Peñaherrera and her oldest daughter Bethsabe, who said she was proud to be the daughter of the artist and happy to know that the sculpture is located in one of the most beautiful places of Guayaquil.
