New vehicles must incorporate double “airbag”
By order of the Ministry of Industries, from next June 15, all vehicles will have to be sold with double “airbag” (dual airbags in the front of the car) for security reasons.
The measure applies to both assembly workshops importing car parts and for those who bring completed cars. In addition, distributors and assemblers have to submit a product certification issued by an accredited laboratory, according to the new scheme in Ecuador, called Inter-System Quality.
This scheme requires the analysis to be approved by laboratories recognized by the Ecuadorian Accreditation Organization (OAE). This certificate must be presented to the Customs House for the vehicles to enter the country.
According to Alex Loza, deputy Engineering manager of Maresa assembler, agrees that the new rules will make cars go up in price, between $ 700 and $ 1,000. The daily production of this assembler goes up between 32 and 35 units.
