Football did not prevent large audience for Lanata
Despite attempts by the Argentine government to decrease the rating of TV program “Periodismo para Todos” (PPT), led by Jorge Lanata, the tv show imposed on the Sunday in audience measurement.
PPT, broadcast by Channel El Trece, succeeded in obtaining an average of 24.6 points over the 16 points that the soccer match between Boca Juniors and Newell’s Old Boys had, aired by public television in the same schedule at the behest of the government and with the intention to compete.
A few days ago, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) changed the schedule of the last game of the local tournament for Sunday, to be played at the same time of Lanata’s TV show.
“If at the end of the cycle of this program we beat all the public TV ratings, they (government) lose their worst card. Because if we beat them in rating, what will they broadcast? It is best to tell the truth,” said Lanata.
Lanata, one of the most prestigious journalists in Argentina, openly denounced an alleged corruption that compromise the late president Nestor Kirchner and his wife and successor Cristina Fernandez, as well as senior government officials and businessmen.
