Nonconformity by the CPI for Galapagos Islands
The ones who opposed to the approval of the new Regime Law for Galapagos disagree with the calculation of the Consumer´s Price Index (CPI) that the Censuses and Statistics National Institute (INEC for its acronym in spanish) established for the islands.
The INEC, the Ministry of Labour and the Government Council of the islands said, this past Thursday, that the CPI is located in 1,803, which means that the level of prices or the cost of life in the islands is an 80% higher than the rest of the country, and this percentage will be the increment in salaries in the public and private sector.
The former law established an increase of 100% to the salary in continental Ecuador for the public sector and a 75% for the private sector.
With the new law, 80% will be for both; which means that the public sector will have 20% less and the private will have 5% more.
