Opposition in disagreement with possible reelection of Correa

Screen Shot 2014-03-03 at 8.58.26The group of Alianza PAIS (AP), plans to meet on Wednesday to discuss ways to amend the constitutional reform which makes viable the indefinite reelection and allow him to postulate in the elections of 2017.

With an absolute majority in the Assembly, President Rafael Correa would have secured a virtual reelection in the upcoming elections.

Given this possibility, some opposition assembly members see the constitutional reform as synonymous with lack of democracy in the country and “totalitarianism”, they say.

For his part, Gilmar Gutiérrez (SP) said he was not surprised that officialism now pose the inclusion of the indefinite reelection in the Constitution because the Government, according to him, is part of an “international political project and for the eternal ambition of power. ”

While Patricio Donoso (CREO) said that if the reform is given would be disrespecting the people who in 2008 voted in favor of the Constitution.
