Panama President accuses Nicolas Maduro of supporting opponents
Posted On 18 Mar 2014
The President of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, yesterday accused the Government of Venezuela of financing an opposition candidate for the general elections in Panama, which will be held on May 4.
The Panamanian Foreign Ministry said last Sunday in a statement, that the Venezuelan Government has made public, `on more than one occasion, their preferences for the candidate of the political party founded by general Omar Torrijos Herrera´, in reference to the opponent Juan Carlos Navarro.
On March 5, the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro broke diplomatic, political, and trade relations with the Government of Panama, after Martinelli unsuccessfully proposed to hold a meeting of Foreign Ministers from countries of the OAS to discuss Venezuela opposition protests.
