Patiño proposes Lenín Moreno as a representative at the UN
The former Vice President of Ecuador was proposed by the Government of Ecuador to be a Special Delegate at the UN on issues of disability, according a statement released by the Foreign Ministry.
Ricardo Patiño was commissioned to present the proposal at a meeting in New York with Ban Ki-Moon Secretary-General of the United Nations during a debate on “Cooperation Between the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations in the maintenance of peace and international security”, which was held yesterday at the headquarters of the United Nations.
The proposal made by Patiño aims to share the Ecuadorian experience in the attention of that group, which has been replicated by several Latin American countries.
Moreno, was responsible for bringing forward the missions “Manuela Espejo” and “Joaquín Gallegos Lara”, which provide comprehensive care to all disabled people in the country, in order prevent them for being marginalized.
Both missions have received multiple awards from countries and international organizations due to the success they have achieved.
Patiño said that the proposal will be analyzed by the UN for a future decision.
