Patiño Says Wikileaks Publications Are Part of the ‘No’ Campaign

Posted On 13 Apr 2011

This morning, through a press conference the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patiño threatened to expel those diplomats of the Foreign Ministry if it is found that they gave inside information to the U.S. Embassy.

Patiño said that Wikileaks’ cables published by Diario El Universo last week are campaigning for the NO option on the ballot questions and referendum to be held on May 7.

Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, branded a “farce” the U.S. cables leaked by Wikileaks on an alleged financial support of Venezuela in his campaign.

The cables indicate those two sources, “one highly credible”, claim that Patiño scored and drove Venezuelan funds for the presidential campaign of Rafael Correa in 2006, and that an uncorroborated report indicated that he solicited funds from the FARC to that campaign.
