Policy for defence of Pedro Delgado is being investigated

The Prosecution initiated a preliminary investigation to the authorities of Rocafuerte Insurance, company seized by the State, for the crime of bank embezzlement, as it relates to the alleged misuse of a policy to cover expenses for the legal defence of Pedro Delgado Campana when he was the representative of the Management Unit Public Law (Ugedep).

The attorney general, Galo Chiriboga, said the decision to open the investigation was taken after analysing a report submitted by the Superintendency of Banks, and assured that the policy taken by the Ugedep order to defend their managers only covered the defence for alleged civil liability and not criminal cases, such as the one that was carried out by the controversial sale of EQ2.

“We presume that there has been a bank embezzlement for the misuse of an insurance policy in the terms that it has,” said Chiriboga, while anticipated to summon all those who know of the commission of the alleged infringement, including the manager Rocafuerte Insurance company. The prosecutor did not gave names.

The policy, which would have covered the payment of at least $ 100,000 for Delgado’s defence, which is still valid because it was renewed in September 2012, that was three months before Delgado left the country after admitting he lied about his professional title for 22 years, with the public offices he held in such conditions.
