Pope Benedict dismissed 400 priests in 2 years
Pope Benedicto XVI dismissed nearly 400 priests in the past two years for sexually abusing children, this was revealed by a document obtained by The Associated Press.
These statistics for 2011-12 are quite larger than the 170 priests dismissed between 2008 and 2009, when the Vatican revealed for the first time details about the number of terminated priests. Previously they had only reported the number of allegations of sexual abuse them had received.
The document was prepared based on data collected by the Holy see to defend themselves from a UN Committee days earlier in Geneva.
Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, Ambassador of Vatican to the UN in Geneva, referred to a single stats in an eight hour session in which the UN Human Rights Committee submitted it to an intense interrogation with strong criticism of the Church. AP obtained the document on Friday.
