President Guillermo Lasso will travel to the United States this Sunday for an official visit to the White House. The presidents will address issues of security, democracy and trade.

President Guillermo Lasso held a meeting with Chris Dodd, presidential adviser for the Americas of the United States, on December 13, 2022.
President Guillermo Lasso and a delegation of 11 officials will travel to the United States, from December 18 to 21, to hold a bilateral meeting with the Joe Biden administration.
On December 13, Lasso received a visit from Chris Dodd, Biden’s presidential adviser for the Americas, in Quito. That was the appointment that confirmed the official invitation for Ecuador, which continues to strengthen ties with Washington.
In a statement, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre noted that this visit provides an opportunity for Biden to consult Lasso on a number of important regional and global issues, including the consequences of the “unjustified” war in Ukraine.
Ecuador ‘s “leadership” in terms of migration will be, according to Jean-Pierre, one of the main issues that both leaders will address.
At the meeting, the leaders will stress “the importance of strengthening democratic institutions” and will discuss initiatives aimed at economic integration, including the Alliance for Economic Prosperity in the Americas, promoted by Biden at the Summit of the Americas held this year in The Angels.
Issues related to security cooperation will also be discussed, according to Jean-Pierre in the statement.
After the bilateral meeting, the representatives of the Ecuadorian Government will hold meetings with representatives of the Organization of American States, the United States Agency for International Cooperation, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
