President Palacio ‘endorsed’ the end of Oxy, says former minister
Ivan Rodriguez, an official who declared the expiration of the contract with American oil company Occidental (Oxy), came forward to comment that in this case a possible recourse action is “not applicable” for the compensation the State shall pay to the company.
This compares with the process the current regime aims to bring against the deputies who in 2004 voted for the dismissal of several judges and against certain officials of the then government of Lucio Gutierrez.
Rodriguez, who executed the decision as Minister of Energy and Mines of President Alfredo Palacio, explained that the right of recourse is “not applicable” because the president himself approved the end of the contract. This happened in May 2006, but the payment falls within the current government of Rafael Correa.
