Prosecutor receives statement of Enrique Herreria

Enrique Herreria
Yesterday, Wednesday January 09, the Prosecutors Officer received the version of the independent Assemblyman Enrique Herreria against Pedro Delgado, former president of the Central Bank of Ecuador, who was accused for alleged misrepresentation.
Herreria arrived at 09:00 to give his testimony, which took an hour and a half. Previously the legislator filed a complaint against Delgado, cousin of the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa. On December 26 the director of Office of Legal Counsel, Cecilia Armas, opened the case.
Herreria questioned the announcement made by the General Prosecutor of the Nation, Galo Chiriboga, where he issued a preventive prison warrant given by the Court against Delgado the former official. “Dr. Galo Chiriboga lied,” stated the Assemblyman while the case is under preliminary investigation and therefore a preventive prison cannot be dictated, the only step is a 24-hours detention for the purpose of the investigation. Herreria maintained that Chiriboga is convinced that Delgado “will not return to Ecuador, they’ll wait until February 17 which is the day of elections.”
He added that if Rafael Correa wins the elections, Delgado will return and would be relieved of his guilt. “It’s going to derail the investigation and maybe he will receive another public office,” said Herreria while remembering that Delgado had to give his version today at 09:00.
