Prosecutor’s office announces new investigation against Alvarado brothers

The prosecutor in charge, Paúl Pérez Reina, affirmed on Friday that the investigative process will continue against the brothers Fernando and Vinicio Alvarado, after the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit of Ecuador (UAFE) issued a report that would reveal irregularities committed by both, when they were government officials of former President Rafael Correa.
These statements were made to El Noticiero, of the TV channel TC, where he noted that “the investigative process continues in all cases where there are indications of acts of corruption. The Office of the Attorney General is committed to open and investigate these cases objectively. We are now initiating the respective investigations “, referring to the Alvarado brothers.
In the morning, on Radio Democracia, the attorney general in charge had stated that: “We have received about 50 files that were in investigation processes and there are also others that are in the process of fiscal instruction. It is logical that it is necessary to continue investigating these cases, what I have done to all the teams of the General Prosecutor’s Office that work in the Preliminary Investigations Unit is that all cases that they maintain in these offices of the public prosecutor are absolutely taken care of in all the requirements and that they are practiced each and every one of the diligences that are considered necessary, independently against whom is investigated “.
The Alvarado brothers had gone on February 22 last, to render their version in the Office of the Prosecutor of Guayas, an entity that would initiate an investigation into the alleged crime of money laundering during his administration.
This inquiry was derived from the report issued by the UAFE, on February 1, which detailed records of alleged transactions and bank accounts of these ex-servants, several of their relatives and companies linked to the family.
Cases Glas, Balda and journalists killed
Pérez Reina also noted in El Noticiero that there are possibilities for new criminal proceedings against former Vice President Jorge Glas, who is being held in prison 4 in Quito, after being sentenced in 2017 to six years in prison for illicit association in the Odebrecht case.
On this case, the prosecutor in charge added that “we are scheduled for May 23 at the hearing of appeal of the sentence, in that hearing logically are going to present the respective arguments for the purpose of that sentence is ratified in the first place and once with the result in confirmation or depending on the decision taken by the National Court, because we will immediately dispose of the corresponding investigations “.
Regarding the case, Fernando Balda said: “I have arranged for the work team to review all the information, review all the statements that have existed up to this moment and, if necessary, call all the people who know these facts, independently of who they are. ”
And about the kidnapping and murder of the journalistic team of newspaper El Comercio, Pérez Reina said: “We have delivered and provided all the information of the investigation.
