Quito Will Fine those Who Litter the City
Quito, Ecuadorian capital city, has been called the “Face of God” for its beauty, character and history. However, every day this city is affected by its own people who litter the streets, sidewalks, plazas and parks.
That is why a fine mechanism has been stablished for those citizens (native or not in the city), that violate the aesthetics and ecology of Quito.
In just four months of enactment of this new ordinance, local authorities have raised $ 270,000 for various violations by the villagers themselves.
Johana Apulia, in charge of the Metropolitan Agency for Control explained that the fines range from $ 53 to $ 528, sanctioning from having neglected or dirty the sidewalk outside the home or business, to throw cigarette butts and other trash, and keep the public space materials construction.
