Rafael Correa would have requested asylum in Belgium, according to Brussels media
Ecuadornews:

The news from a Brussels media outlet (La Capitale) warning of Rafael Correa’s alleged asylum request in Belgium can only be confirmed by the ex-claimant himself.
This was stated this afternoon by Luis Fernando Molina, one of Correa’s lawyers, who says that he does not know the request, but that if it existed, the person who must report the fact is the former president Correa.
The lawyer Molina said that the request for asylum is a right that assists him, but only he must decide if he makes it effective; In the same way, the only information about the request for political asylum, if it decides to assume it, will be from former President Rafael Correa.
Former President Rafael Correa could seek asylum in Belgium
On June 19, during a conference at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), he said that together with his group of lawyers he also analyzed this scenario of political asylum, as a reaction to the decision of Judge Daniella Camacho to link him to the process of the Balda case. She ordered that she appear every two weeks before the Criminal Chamber of the National Court of Justice, from July 2. Correa presented himself at the Consulate of Ecuador in Belgium, alleging that he did so under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the Inter-American Convention on Human Rights, the jurisprudence of the Inter-American Court, and the Constitution and laws of the Republic, as Ecuadorian resident abroad and in exercise of their rights.
On July 5, Judge Camacho issued an order against former President Rafael Correa to Interpol to immediately locate and capture former President Rafael Correa for extradition purposes, but the defense attorneys filed several actions, including the recusal of the judge. (I)
