Rafael Nadal wins Roland Garros

Today the Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal became the first player to win eight titles in the same Grand Slam tournament after defeating his counterpart, the Spanish David Ferrer at the French Open with a final score of 6-3, 6 – 2, 6-3. This is the fourth final played between two Spaniards.

Nadal broke the men’s record of wins at Roland Garros, a title that was once held by the Argentine Guillermo Vilas who was seven-time champion. Nadal becomes a tennis legend with this victory and reaffirms being the king of clay. That is, the best tennis player in the world on clay.

“Beating Rafa (Nadal) is very hard on any surface,” admitted Ferrer.

Prince Felipe of Asturias said today that Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, rivals in the final of Roland Garros attest the Spanish sport. “Today Spain is in luck, again in the sport, a great satisfaction,” said the prince upon arrival at the center court of Roland Garros to witness the final.
