With the reading of the list of about 200 summoned, the process of reconstruction of the facts of the rescue of the former President of the Republic, Rafael Correa, began on the night of September 30, 2010 (30-S).
Prosecutor Fabián Salazar, who is investigating the death of policeman Froilán Jiménez during the rescue, confirmed that the seven officers who led the operation attended as well as General Luis Castro, who commanded him.
Of the 56 volunteers or troop personnel, who also participated in that day, not all attended. However, he ordered the development of the diligence, for which traffic was closed in the vicinity of the Police Hospital, located on Avenida Mariana de Jesús.
The press was placed in a place at the foot of the health house. “From this expertise it is expected to define who was the author of the rifle shot that blinded the life of Jiménez,” said Edwin Romero, a lawyer for the family of the deceased.
The Prosecutor pointed out that in the reconstruction of the events the moments will be reviewed step by step and those summoned will give their version of the participation they had. For investigative reasons, the press was forbidden to record or film the reconstruction of the events. General Castro’s lawyer, Wilson Velasteguí, indicated that his client will report on whathe did, but clarified that the rescue was not at the exit of the former president, but crouched between the hospital and the Quito regiment, with a radio giving instructions, what your contribution will not be greater.
A group of experts collaborated in this event while police personnel protected the area. During the diligence, Correa’s departure from the police hospital was reconstructed on the night of September 30. The experts took note and took photographic shots of all the details of the departure of the car. Simultaneously, in the direction of criminology and under strict reservation, several of those summoned to this diligence surrendered. (I)
