Reelection theme generates different opinions on Assemblymen
Given the possible constitutional amendment for the reelection of President Rafael Correa, various Assemblymen consider this opportunity could be “exploited” to ntroduce other changes.
Opposition legislators as Miguel Moreta and Lourdes Tibán think the Constitution should not be reformed just for Correa’s desires or his political party ´s desires, (Alianza PAIS).
“The rules of the game are given, I think the president has the opportunity to assert himself as statesman, promoting the rights, freedoms, tolerance and above all, leaving an strengthened democracy,” Moreta said.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Rivera, member of the Justice Commission of the Assembly, considered that just as the figure of the reelection, all that does not relate to the structure of the State or to the rights should enter to constitutional reform in this legislature period.
Alianza PAIS is scheduled to meet tomorrow to continue a session that was suspended last Wednesday, in which a position on reelection will be defined.
