Referendum for Yasuni is a possibility according to Correa

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País, President Rafael Correa said he does not exclude the possibility of convening a referendum to decide the oil exploitation in the Yasuni National Park.

The president believes that the position of environmental groups is radical, because they have presented `as an all or nothing and that’s a big lie.´

`This initiative was not successful, we need those resources for the development of the country and is something that was announced if plan A did not work,´ said Correa.

At the time, the National Electoral Council (CNE) assesses the validity of the forms and signatures collected by three different groups, with different positions on the future of Yasuní, to convene a referendum.
