Ruling Party in Venezuela won a crushing victory in regional elections

Henrique Capriles stood undefeated as Gobernor of the rich state of Miranda.
Venezuela is divided into 23 states and last Sunday, the ruling party (Chavismo), using the resource of regional elections, began to rule 20 in total.
The opposition managed to stay unbeaten in the key state of Miranda along with its leader Henrique Capriles Radonski, despite having had an election marked by political uncertainty in view of the poor health of President Hugo Chavez.
Vice President Nicolas Maduro said that this was “a resounding defeat (on the opposition) and they keep on losing“, and also took the opportunity to simultaneously send a message to Chavez. “We are very happy to tell (the president) that today, December 16th, his people gave him a huge act of love. ”
Besides Miranda, the opposition also retained Lara and Amazon states, but lost the states of Zulia, Carabobo, Tachira and Nueva Esparta.
In case Chavez is “disabled” because of his cancer, Capriles could be a candidate in upcoming presidential elections once again.
Besides the governors, 237 deputies were elected for the regional councils.
