International Oversight Seeks to Align Terrorism with Current Standards
Despite the apparent irregularities in the selection of judges of the National Court of Justice (CNJ for its Spanish acronym) in the final report that international oversight handed last Thursday to the Citizen Participation Council (CPC) recommendations were made to bring the criminal sabotage and terrorism to the current legislation and strengthen judicial independence.
Among the cases cited by the suppliers has the case of “10 Luluncoto” youths who are being accused of terrorism by the Government clarified that even if that instance is not an investigative body nor does it intend to interfere with the activities of the Civil Judicial.
Regarding the terrorism the made the following recommendation, “To highlight the need to accommodate the law governing the so-called crime of sabotage in order to adapt to the reality of Ecuador democratic and plural, respecting the principle of proportionality in sentencing and enforcement of alternatives to detention.”
