Shuar community will defend Carondelet on the strike day
The Shuar indigenous community will surround the Carondelet Palace with the arutam, also known as the warriors of the jungle to, “protect democracy” the day of national strike called by the CONAIE.
This community along with other peoples and nationalities of the Sierra and the Coast, who support the Government, announced that this is the way they will answer to the national strike called for August 13.
The the arutam, who are part of the Iwia force, the sole warriors in the Amazon, will stand in front of the Carondelet palace before that day. There, with their bird feather crowns and spears, they will defend the president.
At a press conference, they were accompanied by government officials ,”The leaders of the CONAIE have a political and electoral agenda. There is a chiefdom and they do not address the proposals of the communities,” told this newspaper the representative of the Saraguros of Zamora, Angel Morocho.
