Posted On 31 Jan 2011
The responsible for having distributed 7.2 million spam mails to Facebook users, Philips Porembsky, must pay a fine—issued by a U.S. federal court— of 360.5 million dollars.
“We hate spam and phishing just as much as you do, and we work hard to keep it off Facebook. We do this in a number of ways. We employ technical systems to automatically detect and block spammy behavior, provide easy report links across the site, and develop unique and innovative tools to help you protect your account and information from unauthorized access,” says the social network in a statement.
Facebook received complaints from over eight thousand users and more than four thousand chose to cancel their accounts.
