More than 500 bakeries have registered in the “Panaderías del Barrio” portal in the main cities of Ecuador. Their owners will benefit from the training and technology necessary to adapt to the new needs of the market.
Bread is part of the daily consumption of a good part of the Ecuadorian people. According to the INEC Business Structural Survey, each year, the baking industry markets approximately 48,000 tons of product. Likewise, at a national level, the bakery sector generates about 22,000 jobs.
The health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has hit all sectors of the economy. Many businesses have creatively diversified the way they sell their products to minimize losses. One of them has been to use distribution channels for home delivery.
In order to reactivate the bakery sector, “Bakeries in the neighborhood” was born, an application created to integrate bakeries on the same web platform that allows consumers to locate registered bakeries, choose the one they prefer and place their order.
This portal has been enabled since May 11 to register and register all bakeries who wish to work with home orders, complying with all biosafety regulations in the handling and transfer of products, according to their creators.
This portal is free to use throughout the country and has been developed with the support of the company Moderna Alimentos and is available at the following link: www.panaderiasdelbarrio.com
How does it work
By accessing the website, the user can directly contact the nearest bakery or bakery of their choice and place their order at home. Once the order is made, the preparation, shipping and delivery procedure is carried out by the selected bakery.
Jefferson Sánchez Parra, owner of a bakery in the north of Quito, considers that the support of private companies is essential so that the entire country can get out of this crisis and that their businesses are reactivated. “The Bakeries of the Neighborhood platform has allowed my long-time clients and new ones to contact me and make their orders at home, this commits us to working respecting all the biosafety regulations, to ensure that families have their always fresh bread”, said.
