Surge of Clashes Ravage Egypt Once More
Posted On 23 Nov 2011
Hostilities between anti-government demonstrators and Egyptian security forces raged throughout Tahrir Square. The riot police retreated only to be replaced by soldiers.
However during the afternoon the violence came to an abrupt halt when the riot police members abandoned the area. Soon soldiers made a perimeter with armored personnel carriers to act as a barrier between the crowds in the square and police headquarters.
Barely before nightfall the confrontations began again, tear gas was fired and gunshots were heard. At least 35 protesters have died in the newest confrontations and more than 2,000 were injured in the clashes between police and protesters that started last November 12, 2011. (AV)
