Technology for QLED televisions will be assembled in Ecuador

QLED will be assembled in Ecuador in the second half of this year, technology that enhances the quality of the image.
This was announced in the framework of the opening of the new production lines for this technology and for screens up to 82 inches of the Ensab company that assembles the Samsung brand in the country since 2016.
Diego Terán, commercial director of Samsung Electronics, explained that in 2016, they started with 3 models, and with a production of 50,000 televisions; in 2017, 7 models; in 2018, 10 models, and this year, 11 models with a production of 180,000 units per year. During the 3 years that are in the market they have produced more than 295,000 units of televisions.
Although it depends on the specific model, the national aggregate ranges from 22% to 25% but -in two years- they expect to achieve 30%, Terán added.
Kyu Yeon, president of Ensab, said that they are an Ecuadorian company that maintains a strategic alliance with Samsung. The investment made by the local company is about $ 15 million and only for assembly about $ 2.5 million. He estimated that the reduction of the price of the assembled apparatus in the country versus an imported one is 30 or 40%.
He noted that in Ecuador packaging is made, mainboard (card for general operation), brochures, but could not reach 100% local component because, for example, the factories of the panels are in Asia.
The possibility of exporting televisions to neighboring countries is also studied.
Possibility also with cell phones
Yeon mentioned that they are evaluating whether cell phones could be assembled in Ecuador but it is a project that is not firm.

Several government authorities attended the event, including Otto Sonnenholznner, Vice President of the Republic, who said that the Government supports both domestic and foreign investment.
