The children of today, and their passion for technology

Posted On 31 May 2013

According to the last census of population and housing, 32% of children between 5 to 12 years uses a computer, 20% know what how to surf the Internet  and 17% manipulates a cell phone.

Apparently this answers the question of why today parks no longer receive children with flying kites or playing hopscotch, since video games such as Play Station, and mobile devices (cellular and tablets)  dominate the attention of the little ones.

Cecilia de Janon, who works in the kindergarten Pedro Jose Huerta said that the children “are not produced in the same way”. She works there for 41 years, and remember that her first students were surprised when a  box with a roller inside made the images of a storybook rotate, however, due to their abilities with technology, now is not easy to keep them quiet and still.

“Society has changed in 40 years, parents have no time to read them stories. They send them to entertain themselves with so many new technological equipment and children are locked up in this world that fits in the 7. 9 or 1. 7 inch screen,”says Cecilia de Janon, who asserts that this affects them because it makes them individualistic, and not more intelligent because 40 years ago children had the same capacity.

Tomorrow, June 1, Ecuador celebrates  Children’s day . Today the schools and other institutions organized parties and entertainment activities and tomorrow the celebration will be in homes with food and gifts.
