The deadline to tag transgenics will end on November 15

rotulacionThe Ministry of production said through a statement that the Ministry of public health (MSP) shall issue until November 15, a labeling regulation which determines The deadlines for The management of The new labelling of comprehensive information.

Thus provided  in the new labelling regulation for processed foods, packed and packaged, that establishes  that only The product that contains “transgenics” should place it on its label.

The text indicates that if such legislation does not enter into force on that date, the words  “genetically modified” must be placed through adhesive labels, indelible stamps or other mechanism until May 15, 2014.

If the decision is taken, the resolution which was set by the Superintendency of Control of market power on September 11, establisihing that food and beverage labels have to report if they contain GMOs or not, would have no effect.

On the other hand, the Ministry of health lifted the ban so the pharmacies can sell flu medicines, anti-inflammatory and other medicines without prescription, which was imposed during the time that the country experienced an epidemic of influenza H1N1, which is now controlled.
